As the story goes, nearly a hundred years ago, a gardener started breeding tomato plants in West Virginia. Season after season, he crossed his biggest and best tomato plants with one another, until finally he bred a winner. The large, meaty, pink tomatoes on this plant became wildly popular, and he began selling plants for $1 each. After paying off his mortgage because of the success of this tomato, he aptly named the variety ‘Mortgage Lifter’!
